The Rogue class was so weak on release it could be defeated by single enemies 15 levels below it, and after countless failed attempts at buffing and revamping the class was outright deleted from the final product (and rumours suggest a few devs responsible were outright fired at the same time, too). On the other end of the scale, the Iop class had more HP than five other classes combined, and could do more damage than the actual DPS, yet remained barely touched for months at a time because of its sheer popularity in a self-perpetuating feedback cycle of “This is the best class to play > almost everyone plays this class > any nerfs to this class upsets the majority of the player base on the forums.”

(If you want to see the full list of negative RNG results, search ‘The God Ecaflip’ and look at the table of -1 card results) A truly unlucky player could drop themselves instantly to 1hp, mass-heal all the enemies nearby or even summon a kamikaze cat that would attack their friends.
Other games might have weak classes, but in Wakfu you chose between “the tank that can solo every boss” or “the randomly exploding cat.” The Ecaflip was a gambling-themed class, and thus the Ecaflip player had to rely on RNG for their skills' effects. It had the sort of class balancing that exceeds “terrible” and becomes “honestly kind of funny”. Instead, I want to take you back to the glorious hot mess of Wakfu in its 2012 free-to-play beta and the start of the trouble. I don’t wish to speak of its current iteration, however. 600 daily players?! However, as Steam is an unpopular portal for MMOs, let’s just settle on a final and highly specific calculation of: not many players, and far less than hoped. Yet, as I type this, it sits at an estimated 28k daily players overall, dutifully limping on with somewhat frequent updates as a free to play experience.Įta: cancel that 28k, the data was from an API snapshot from years ago misattributed to 2021, as a helpful person just pointed out.
#Dofus vs wakfu 2016 series
A sequel to an already successful MMO called Dofus, Wakfu had a lot going for it: a well-established brand, a blend of fresh art design and unique new mechanics alongside call-backs to traditional strategy RPGs, and a potential new audience from the recently released and well-received cartoon series of the same name. Wakfu is a unique entry into the MMO market, with isometric 2D, turn-based gameplay.
